The guys over at Trading Standards make the rules and we work closely with them to make sure everything is listed in a way that is realistic and easy to follow.
So, here are the basics of what we show and why…
Each of our products contains a wide range of nutrients, but we only show the ones which are considered ‘high in’ or ‘a source of’ that nutrient.
The Reference Intake (RI) refers to the recommended daily amount of a specific nutrient.
- To be high in a nutrient, the food must contain 30% of the RI per 100g for that nutrient.
- To be a source of a nutrient, the food must contain 15% of the RI per 100g for that nutrient.
We make sure we show the % RI per serving as it is unlikely you would be having 100g of cumin seed or 100g of flaxseed in one sitting. Showing the serving amount of a nutrient in grams and the % RI per serving is a useful measure for you to understand what your body needs each day.
For example, here is the information for our macadamia nuts:

When you take a look at this table you can see what nutrients the product contains per 100g and then how much one recommended serving will provide your body with. Then, you can check what percentage of your daily intake is met with that serving.
*On some products that have smaller servings we show the RI for 100g as well so you can get a clear picture of which nutrients that food contains.
