Organic Ceylon (true) Cinnamon Powder is the highest grade.

Organic Cinnamon powder or cinnamomum zeylanicum is a very special spice with a rich, sweet taste that transports you to foreign places. Cinnamon is great if you are trying to cut down on sugar or honey as it has a sweetness which can replace your normal sugar fix, some people like to make a tea from cinnamon, clove and cumin.

Ceylon cinnamon (or true cinnamon) is a purer form which has more potent properties including a very high cinnamaldehyde content.  To obtain this precious organic cinnamon powder, the inner bark is gently dried with warm air and then ground down. This rich brown powder has a characteristic aromatic taste and comes all the way from regions in Asia where the cinnamon tree grows.

If you fancy trying a new recipe with your organic cinnamon powder then try one of these:

Spiced Pumpkin Latte

Grain Free Banana Cake (vegan and gluten free)

Energy Boost Breakfast Bars

When you are making a slow cook recipe or hot drink infusion you could try our organic ceylon cinnamon sticks.

What’s special about ‘Ceylon’ cinnamon?

Not all cinnamon is created equal.  The more common cassia variety found in most supermarkets contains high levels of coumarin which can be toxic to the liver.  Ceylon cinnamon contains so little coumarin that it often doesn’t show up on testing.  Organic Ceylon is a higher grade product containing higher levels of cinnamon’s beneficial essential oil (cinnamaldehyde).  It is safe to consume in large quantities on a regular basis, whereas cassia cinnamon is not due to its coumarin content.

Which Cinnamon is best for me?

If you are a cinnamon lover and want to use it regularly for its numerous health benefits, then Organic Cinnamon powder is the best choice for you.  If you use cinnamon a couple of times a year for a tagine then it might not matter so much in your case.  Personally we keep Ceylon Cinnamon on hand at all times for sweet and savoury dishes as well as a warming addition to herbal teas and mylks.  We feel much happier knowing the quality and safety of Ceylon.

For gluten and dairy free cinnamon biscuits just follow this recipe and add 1/2 tsp of ground cinnamon.
